I'm Alex Harries; welcome to my little corner of the UPSU Elections campaign. I've worked for The Union for almost five years now in many roles, and for the last two years I have designed and built the majority of UPSU.net. I have also witnessed many changes at the Union, good and bad, and I am determined to improve your experience as a student at Portsmouth University in 2007-2008.

What do I want to achieve at The Union?

I will work hard to...

• Develop the online student community to help you to find people who share your interests,
• Work hard to improve The Union's staff and sabbs online presence, so you can find out more about what they're doing for you,
• Raise the quality of UPSU Media output - including Pure:FM, Purple Wednesdays, Pugwash, and UPSU.net - by developing better training and providing better equipment for students involved in UPSU Media,
• Encourage you to get involved with the creation of UPSU Media, from writing stories and reviewing gigs, to training to become a radio DJ, or a web designer, so you can learn new skills while you're at Uni,
• Work hard with the entertainments team to put on a wider variety of music and more shows, all by UPSU's clubs and societies,
• Ensure that students can rely on UPSU.net to be a good source of information and advice on all student-related matters,
• And last, but definitely not least, I want to make sure that you hear about the things that are important to you, by making sure our marketing is on-time and effective.

Who am I, & why do I know what I'm talking about?

For almost five years, I have worked part-time at the Union while studying for my degree. In that time, I have gone from pulling pints behind the bar to sound engineering, DJing, designing poster and flyer campaigns and, for the last two years, designing, developing and building the UPSU.net website.

Of course, no-one can do such a huge task alone, and I am proud to have worked closely with two Sabbatical teams, and the membership services department, to create one of the country's best student websites.

I will continue that hard work to ensure UPSU's media - whether online, broadcast, or in print - is of the highest standard.
